Web Activate is a programme established to allow for the adoption of new skill sets by a group of currently unemployed people. In the process they will learn new internet skills and apply them to different businesses. Also they will gain work experience applying these new skills to enable local businesses to establish a web presence. The programme is located in dedicated offices in Cork, Galway, and Dublin. The programme is government funded and courses are free of charge.
The initially pilot project is running in the 3rd quarter of 2010. The duration of the initial programme is from August to December. All participants are equipped with a notebook computer, software and 3G broadband.
As this is a green field project, Webactivate are looking for support on some technical aspects of the project to get up and running.
BESTSOFT Consulting are delivering services to Webactivate in the following areas:
CSS Template development suitable for the requirement. BESTSOFT have many years of experience of developing and implementing CSS style sheets for use in all of the applications we have developed. These have been for .NET, Java and in particular for PHP projects. For PHP we have designed and implemented style sheets for a wide range of projects including WordPress, Drupal and our own in house CMS application. We are applying our Wordpress experience in particular for this aspect of the project.
In order to support three sets of students at different locations undertaking Web Development work, to support internal elearning software applications and to allow for the "live" publishing of the end result for those SMEs who have taken part in the project requires a solid stable architecture with support and backup where required. This requires a series of servers supporting the different aspects of the functionality to be deployed, staging, live, elearning, administration etc..
BESTSOFT Consulting are working closely with the Webactivate team to put the required architecture in place and to ensure it is secure, robust and accessible.
In addition we have implemented a deployment of WordPress MU CMS to support the initial learning requirements of the course. We have implemented a configuration that will allow the students on the course to access the different levels of functionality, modules, templates etc in a controlled manner as the level of experience and knowledge grows. Once the sites have reached an acceptable level of stability, it will be possible to publish them automatically to the public live site all the while controlled by the tutors.
